Microsoft Vista and Office new releases The year has started with a bang in the world of IT: Firstly, you can't have failed to notice that Microsoft have now launched their new operating system, Windows Vista. However, they have also upgraded Microsoft Office from Office 2003 to Office 2007. This brings dramatic improvements to the look and feel of all your traditional Word, Excel and Powerpoint applications, and we've had good experiences with it so far. Read more about this release here: Microsoft Voice over IP set to move into the SME market According to a variety of industry sources, 2007 is finally the year when Voice Over IP technology (making phone calls over the Internet) is maturing as a reliable technology. We have rolled it out here at TechDivision, and it can make a dramatic impact on your phone bills, especially if you have a branch office, or staff that work from home. Security is often cited as a key concern, but the fact that the likes of Gloucestershire Constabulary are now adopting it should allay most people's concerns. Read more about this article here: Silicon Push e-mail has finally arrived for the SME sector. Push e-mail (e-mail delivered directly to your mobile phone in real-time) has now become a lot cheaper, and is no longer solely the preserve of corporate institutions. Previously, the Blackberry was the only device to offer instant e-mail, but it is now available to a much wider number of devices. We are rolling this out to an increasing number of our clients, who don't want to miss out on that vital e-mail just because they're out on the road. Read more about how this works: Wikipedia Companies to update websites and email footers after 2007 Just a gentle reminder for those who have still not applied the changes. Companies in the UK risk a fine if their websites and email footers do not include certain regulatory information after January 1st 2007. Such information that should be included are items such as your company registration number, place of registration and registered office address. Read more on this story: The Register Computer waste law becomes active After long delays the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) became law in the UK on January 2nd 2007. In an attempt to stem the environmental damage caused by dumping used technology materials, the law forces manufacturers to recycle and dispose of used equipment.
