Wireless and Mobile news
16th January 2006
A UK company that has created wireless hotspots in stations, coffee shops and hotels around the UK is planning to launch city-wide wi-fi this spring. The first phase being in March 2006. This will enable techies far and wide to get wireless broadband internet from laptops, PDAs and mobile phones. The blanket wireless coverage will be provided through wi-fi equipment fitted on lampposts and street signs.

The initiative has been backed by MP Derek Wyatt, head of the All-Party Internet Group, who said: "Such a large-scale project is an exciting prospect for communications in the UK, allowing people to send emails, make cheap phone calls, surf the internet, do business and even play games online, wherever they are."

Virus Updates
16th January 2006

Most virus outbreaks are now called "0-day" outbreaks because the virus becomes widespread before an anti-virus vendor has picked up on it.

However, virus outbreak notifications are provided from a number of companies. For news on the latest outbreaks we recommend the Sophos website. In addition to providing weekly bulletins they also provide news feeds that you can access with a news reader or Firefox browser that are updated 24/7.
